Dr. Thomas Carter is an orthopedist in Phoenix and is affiliated with Banner University Medical Center Phoenix. His specialties include orthopedic surgery, specifically in sports medicine and knee orthopedic surgery.

As an Orthopedic Specialist, he spent nearly two decades as the Suns Head Team Physician and fourteen at ASU as the Head Orthopedic Team Physician. He now serves as the Head Orthopedic Team Physician at GCU. In 2016 he was awarded NBA physician of the year. He enjoys covering sports events, but also hiking and traveling.

Dr. Carter’s person approach to taking care of patients is to try to treat them the same whether a weekend warrior or a professional athlete. His passion is rather than treat injuries, is to develop educational and outreach programs to help prevent injuries in young athletes.

His training included graduating from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1983, followed by an Internship, Orthopedic Surgery from Ohio State University in 1984. He then went on to Teton Orthopedics with a Fellowship in Sports Medicine in 1988, as well as a Residency, Orthopedic Surgery from Ohio State University in 1988. He finished with a Fellowship in Sports Medicine at University of Western Ontario in 1989.
